About Sani Monastery

History & significance

The Kanika Stupa at Sani is said to date from the 2nd century AD under the Kushan king Kanishka, making it possibly the oldest Buddhist monument in the region. The current Drukpa Kagyu monastery hosts the colourful Sani Nasjal festival every August.
