About Nun Kun Peaks
Twin Himalayan giants — Nun (7,135 m) and Kun (7,077 m) — dominating the Suru Valley skyline and ranking among the highest peaks entirely inside India.
History & significance
First summited in 1953 (Nun) and 1913 (Kun), these peaks have a long mountaineering history. The base camp is now also a popular trekking and viewpoint destination for non-climbers exploring the Suru Valley.
Travel tips
- Climbing requires IMF permits and full expedition support.
- Day-trekkers can hike up to the lower meadows from Tangole.
- Best viewpoints are between Panikhar and Parkachik.
- Carry altitude medication — base camp is over 4,000 m.
