About Nubra Valley
A cold desert valley famous for its double-humped Bactrian camels, white sand dunes at Hunder, and the giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the confluence of the Shyok and Nubra rivers.
History & significance
Nubra was a crucial stop on the ancient Silk Road branch linking Yarkand to Leh. The Bactrian camels you see today are descendants of the caravan animals that once carried silk, spices, and salt across these mountains.
