About Pangong Lake

A surreal high-altitude endorheic lake that changes colour through the day — from sapphire to turquoise to deep blue — stretching from India into Tibet at over 4,350 metres.

History & significance

Pangong Tso has long been a strategic and spiritual landmark, sitting along the Line of Actual Control with China. Roughly 60% of its 134 km length lies in Tibet. It became a tourist phenomenon after featuring in Bollywood films.

Travel tips

  • Carry an Inner Line Permit (we can arrange it).
  • Spend a night at Spangmik or Man for sunrise and starry skies.
  • Drink lots of water — altitude sickness is common above 4,000 m.
  • Pack warm layers even in summer; nights drop near freezing.
